Drifting plan
Let your troubles flow with the river into the sea.
2019
Urban life can often leave people feeling highly anxious due to the distance from nature and the multitude of pressures arising from work and daily life. At times, we yearn for a means to vent our emotions. However, societal expectations often compel individuals to maintain emotional composure in front of others, leaving those in urban environments without a suitable outlet for emotional release.
Therefore, I have designed a space that allows the audience to release their emotions to nature. In this space, people can don noise-canceling helmets, and outside of these helmets, I have enveloped the entire area with sounds from nature, including those of frogs and flowing water. Consequently, the audience can freely vent their emotions. They can shout, laugh, cry, or share their secrets, but those outside the helmets remain unable to hear.
Simultaneously, I have placed five spherical objects resembling drifting message bottles on a river. Each of these spheres houses speakers and a camera. The voices of the audience are relayed in real-time to these floating spheres, and the audience can also listen to the sounds of the river. The camera captures visuals from the river and transmits them back to the experiential space. This setup enables the audience to engage in a dialogue, confide, or release their emotions in an indoor environment while connecting with a river. Ultimately, these five spheres carry away the burdens of the audience's troubles downstream, eventually reaching the vast expanse of the sea
